I’m not 100% sure but I believe you do need a college degree.
I know that you will have to pass test(s) depending on what you are selling ie series 7 is the general securites exam.

You are asking a very general question. It is as simple as getting the proper license (your state’s Department of Insurance). Then there are specialized trainings that will give you the letters after your name to make you more important. You can sell products or be a fee consultant.

I know it’s commission only and you have to find your own clients. Blah.
Financial Advisor
It’s a thinly disguised sales job.
You have to get your own clients, and you are selling them the financial products your company offers.
Lots of prospecting, cold calling and networking. You get a very low base, and generous commission. If you fail to produce within 3 months, you’re on warning; if you do not meet your goals in six months, you’re history.
Unless you like selling, and hard-core selling at that, do not be enamored by the title. You don’t even get to DO any planning – just selling their services.

Advisor’s and Planners usually require both a college degree and certification to be taken seriously.
Analysts need neither and can still prove their worth, they just have to work a little harder at it.
Both require State and Federal Licensing.
